# Nights taken and released

**Nights taken and released:** Calendar nights that changed from open to closed (taken) or from closed to open (released) between two observations of the same listing.

## How we measure it

We compare consecutive calendar snapshots and count each change, with the number of days between them.

## What it is not

A released night is often a cancellation or a host unblocking dates, not lost demand.

## Where it appears in the data

Field names as the API returns them; each dataset's page in the API lists the field's type and unit.
