# Lodging tax

**Lodging tax:** Tax charged on short stays, also called transient occupancy tax, hotel tax or room tax.

## How we measure it

We record the state, county and city rates separately, and a combined rate only when the jurisdiction states one itself.

## What it is not

We do not add the parts together, because they can apply to different amounts.

## Where it appears in the data

Field names as the API returns them; each dataset's page in the API lists the field's type and unit.
